Creativity Tip:
Discover Yourself through Halloween Postcards
Artellagram 10-30-12
Collectors of vintage postcards say that authentic Halloween postcards are among the rarest of any holiday. Whenever I've come across them, I am so intrigued by their designs. Whimsical, sentimental, a tad bit racy…the old-fashioned view of Halloween's magic and mischief is fascinating.
In the spirit of Halloween, why not try using vintage Halloween postcards as an interesting tool for self-discovery!
Try this:
- Download this set of free Halloween postcards.
- Print and cut out the cards, so that you have a small "deck" of postcards.
- If you like, you can reinforce the cards with pretty cardstock, or cardboard that you've embellished on your own.
- On a piece of paper, write down any question that has been on your mind lately.
- Pick a card from your deck and imagine that the card is "answering" your question. How might the images, ideas, and words on the card be related to your question? Write down any new insights, discoveries, or ideas come that forward.
- Pick a new card, and imagine that the character featured on the card has an answer for you. Squint your eyes and see if you can look deeply into this character's face and imagine you can "hear" an answer. What does he/she/it want you to know? Again, write down any relevant insights.
- If you like, you can repeat your inquiry with a different card, or even with the full deck.
